Formula Renault 3.5 Series – Red Bull Ring

Race 1 of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series on the Austrian Red Bull Ring, the last race before the summer vacation. A sunny Sunday race morning that saw a dominating Olivier Rowland, the Englishman after a strong performance on Saturday started from the pole for race 1. Leading till the end, Rowland managed the race despite the pressure received by Dean Stoneman, who started from P4 and jumped after the start directly behind Rowland, followed by team-mate Nick de Vries, and the 2 safety car periods during the race, he also set the fastest lap marking even more his strong performance.

For F1 driver Roberto Merhi it was a race to forget, after being in P4 he lost his position because of a 10s penalty for not respecting the track limits and then getting excluded from the race while slowing too much down after the chequered flag and causing a collision with Nicholas Latifi; both drivers are ok.

Winning with a margin of 8.3s, Rowland extended his lead in the drivers standings over Matthieu Vaxiviere to a margin of 33 points, as well as for his team, Fortec Motorsports, who leads the teams standings with 236 points followed by DAMS(Stoneman, de Vries) with 147 points.
